Les vignes
Lorsqu'ils le pouvaient, les vignerons creusaient un puits dans leurs vignes. Il servait à faire boire le cheval et à préparer la bouillie pour la machine à sulfater (en la portant sur le dos, on n'utilisait pas beaucoup d'eau dans la journée). Lorsque les vignes étaient plus éloignées, on construisait des mas, souvent à 2 pièces, une pour le cheval, l'autre pour les hommes avec une cheminée pour la grillade de midi.
Le puits qu'on voit ici se situe au point culminant entre Popian et Pouzols; étonnant, non! Et bien non, à quelques mètres en dessous ce n'est que de l'argile. Cette couche s'étend jusqu'à l'Hérault. L'eau qui tombe ici est emprisonnée entre 2 couches d'argile pour former la nappe phréatique de Pouzols dans laquelle puise le forage qui alimente le village.
